[13/01/2011] Electric Toothbrush Comparison

With so many brands and models of electric toothbrushes on the market, it is often difficult to choose and know which one would work the best for us. The electric toothbrushes are not necessarily more effective when compared to the manual ones, but due to their nature are easier to brush properly with. They are also well liked by children, which ensures that they would use them regularly and will not see brushing as a chore.

Amongst the various types and brands, the Sonicare electric toothbrushes are probably the most popular and widely used ones. They are backed by the patented Sonicare technology, which delivers the high frequency motion of the head, as well as the high amplitude bristle motion. This helps brushing better, removing all the plaque, and cleaning thoroughly between the teeth. Unique are also the heads of these toothbrushes, which have been designed to match the shape of the teeth and provide better results. The Sonicare also works with dynamic cleaning action that massages the gums, cleans behind the teeth, and helps removing the bacteria from the hard to reach places.

Another brand that is well-received is the Oral-B, where Oral-B is part of the Procter & Gamble Company, often considered a leader in the oral hygiene technology. They offer a range of electric toothbrushes, including a model that utilizes sonic technology, called Pulsonic. The ones from the ProfessionalCare SmartSeries are the toothbrushes that come with everything that you might look for, they are gentle on the teeth and gums, have a timer that ensures that you brush for two minutes, and clean plaque easily. The SmartSeries also come with pressure sensor alerts, which go off if you start brushing too hard, built-in smart display, mode for people with sensitive teeth, and even polish mode.

Which toothbrush you choose is entire up to you and purchasing the most expensive one does not necessarily ensure better results. Choose a toothbrush that has the functions that you need, ignore the ones with too many “whistles and bells” that are of no use to you, and stick to well-known and proven brands. As long as you floss regularly, brush your teeth after every meal, and use your toothbrush properly, you will see your dentist less often.
